About our Program: Legacy Builders and Preservers

The Legacy Builders and Preservers class is rooted in a Project Based Learning model (PBL) where students learn by creating, and community engagement. Rather than relying on lessons and textbooks, students engage In hands on projects that demand critical thinking, collaboration, and the process of creating real, impactful work. This approach reflects the vision of the Bronx High school for the Visual Arts and gives students the tools they need for academic and personal growth. 

Every project in the course is shaped by the BHSVA PROSPER standards, a guiding framework that defines how students show up for themselves and their community. Through perseverance students push through challenges, they take responsibility by considering community needs. Ownership encourages students to make thoughtful choices, while Service calls them to collaborate and actively contribute to the culture of the classroom and beyond.

The PROSPER standards continue to guide students as they broaden their worldview and reach for their highest potential. Through Perspective students honor diverse ideas, values, and beliefs. Including those of the Elders and community partners while sharing their own unique viewpoints. The standard of Elevate pushes students to set ambitious goals and lift their peers alongside them. Finally, Reflection brings it all together, as students use feedback to revise work and grow from every experience. 

Together, the PROSPER standards ensure that Legacy Builders and Preservers is more than just a class, it is a community in practice, where, in everything we do, we PROSPER.
